The William S.S. Harris Dry Goods store conducted business in Troy, Tennessee (Obion County) during the early half of the 1830's. The proprietor, William S.S. Harris, is considered to be one of the first merchants to have operated a business in Obion County. He later ventured into the law profession becoming a prominent attorney, county clerk, State Senator, and probate judge. The ledgers contain a list of individuals who purchased items on credit and inventories of goods purchased by proprietor from 1830 to 1833. Included are hand written copies of court cases in Obion County from 1850 to 1853.
