Be Prepared to Lead in Boardrooms or Congress

The Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at UT Martin prepares students for careers in private industry, government, and nonprofit organizations. The faculty are committed to developing graduates whose skills, abilities, and ethical standards contribute to a diversified and dynamic society. The faculty emphasize quality undergraduate and graduate instruction and provide experiential learning opportunities for students. Academic programs are delivered in an environment that encourages a broad understanding of the forces shaping social, political, and economic change in a global society. Through its training sessions, internship programs, professional conferences, relevant research projects, and regional development activities, the department provides value to students, graduates, and the communities we serve.

Program Outcomes

Department Scholarships

Brown / Hill Family Accounting Scholarship

The Brown/Hill Family Accounting Scholarship is awarded to a student who is currently enrolled at or admitted to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin. Recipient will be a junior or senior majoring in accounting. First preference will be given to Henry County residents, followed by preference being given to any Tennessee resident.

Dr. Richard B. Griffin Scholarship

The Dr. Richard B. Griffin Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in accounting. Applicants must demonstrate successful academic performance and financial need may be considered.

Eddie K. Whitlow Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in accounting or finance. Must be a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

James Duncan Wingett Scholarship

The James Duncan Wingett Scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a major in either accounting or finance. They must demonstrate successful academic performance with a 3.0 GPA or higher and be a graduate of a high school in the TN counties of Crockett, Obion, Shelby or Weakley. First preference will be given to employee dependents of Wolf River Capital Management, LLC. Awarded to previous recipient in subsequent years as long as they maintain scholarship requirements.

Retired Accounting Faculty Scholarship

The Retired Accounting Faculty Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in accounting with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Rhonda D. Mitchell Scholarship

The Rhonda D. Mitchell Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in accounting with a 2.8 GPA or higher with financial need.

Robert (Pete) Vawter Scholarship

The Robert (Pete) Vawter Scholarship is awarded to a junior from West Tennessee majoring in accounting with a 2.8 GPA or higher.

Ronald Kilgore Accounting Scholarship

The Ronald Kilgore Accounting Scholarship provides scholarships to deserving UT Martin students majoring in accounting who have completed 60 or more credit hours. Students who qualify must have a 3.2 GPA or higher and have successfully completed Accounting 301 with a grade of "B" or better.

U-3 Usery Family Scholarship

The U-3 Usery Family Scholarship is awarded to a junior, senior student in Business Administration majoring in accounting or finance with a 3.25 GPA or higher. Must be active in at least one on-campus business organization. A student holding the scholarship during their junior year may be considered for it for their senior year. Financial need may be considered if other criteria are met.
