Professional Licensure & Educational Requirements by State
These “Determinations” are accurate to the best of our abilities. These licensure disclosures will be reviewed annually in May and June and updated/published in July.
Beginning in 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration is requiring everyone interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) to have a Masters (MA or MS) degree for eligibility to sit for the Registered Examination for Dietitians (RDN). In compliance with this policy, beginning in Fall 2023 the University of Tennessee at Martin’s (UTM)
Dietetic Internship program is transitioning its graduate program to a two-year cohort model to provide students both the required coursework and internship opportunity to successfully graduate with their MS degree and be eligible to sit for the RD exam. After a person has successfully passed the exam, he/she may apply for licensure in any states that require it, including Tennessee.
If you have additional questions, please contact the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at (731) 881-7100. Additional information about the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and its accreditation can be found on the Family and Consumer Sciences homepage.
