Individual licenses in psychology are regulated at the state level by state licensing authorities commonly referred to as "State Boards." These state authorities determine the specific education and training requirements for their state. Many states require post-doctoral training along with examinations. As such, UT Martin's undergraduate degree in psychology is not sufficient, in and of itself, to meet the licensure requirements of most states.

For example, in Tennessee, psychology licenses are issued by the Board of Examiners of Psychology. To become a psychologist in Tennessee, you will need to: complete a doctoral degree in psychology, have supervised professional experience, and pass both national and state exams.

If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification, it is strongly recommended you contact the local state licensing agency in the state you will be seeking licensure. A list of state contact information is provided below for your convenience.
