The Department of Educational Studies is dedicated to providing a variety of opportunities for the next generation of teachers. Be prepared to positively influence young children and families from diverse backgrounds using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate practices. Your coursework will provide you with the knowledge and skills to do this as a competent educator.

Accreditation

All teacher preparation programs in the Department of Educational Studies are approved by the Tennessee State Board of Education and accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Program Outcomes

Department Scholarships

Andrew Hart Teacher Education Scholarship

The Andrew Hart Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to a senior from Weakley County majoring in education. Applicant must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and financial need.

Billie Grace Goodrich Scholarship

The Billie Grace Goodrich Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior student from Gibson County majoring in education with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Financial need is to be considered.

Bob Robinson Scholarship

The Bob Robinson Scholarship, established by family and friends to honor Bob Robinson, is awarded to a junior or senior education major with a 3.2 GPA or above. Must be in Pre K-3 or early education.

Clayton Arnold Teacher Training Scholarship

The Clayton Arnold Teacher Training Scholarship is awarded to a student from Southern States with first preference to rural areas, majoring in Teacher Education. Applicants must have a GPA 3.0 or higher with financial need.

Dr. Michael and Tammie Patterson Scholarship

The Dr. Michael and Tammie Patterson Scholarship is awarded to an Education Major from Decatur or Henderson County attending the Parson Center. Applicants must have a GPA 3.5 or higher.

Duncan Minority Education Scholarship

The Duncan Minority Education Scholarship is awarded to a minority student majoring in education with financial need. Must be an entering freshman with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Elizabeth Dilday Pentecost Scholarship

The Elizabeth Dilday Pentecost Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student majoring education with first preference to non-traditional students with teaching experience. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Hannah Fitch Crosser Annual Scholarship Endowment

Applicants must be pursuing a UTM Educational Studies major, must have or maintain a 2.5 GPA, preference is given to Henry County, TN applicants, previous recipients are given preference, and preference is given to those who are Junior/Senior level.

J Paul and Myrtle Phillips Education Scholarship

The J. Paul and Myrtle Phillips Education Scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in education with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Jean Cheatham McCollum Scholarship

The Jean Cheatham McCollum Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in education. The applicant must have a 2.8 GPA and financial need.

Maurice Houston Field Scholarship

The Maurice Houston Field Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in education with a science concentration in grades 4-8. Need and academics are to be considered.

Paul and Sue Foote Mathematics Scholarship

The Paul and Sue Foote Mathematics Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in math or math education and planning to pursue a career teaching math. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and financial need.
